Bridge into the Woods

The Bridge Program

The Bridge Program is a community based IBHP (Intensive Behavior Health Program) provided by Project Healing Hive (PHH). This program provides mental health and social services to families with adolescents and teens experiencing non-crisis emotional and behavioral barriers seeking an alternative form of mental health treatment. The Bridge Program is a holistic-based treatment model using CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) integrated with evidence-based CAM (complementary and alternative medicine). We incorporate the CASSP (child and adolescent social service program) principles which allows for a more preventative and comprehensive approach to mental health treatment for families with adolescents or teens experiencing depression, anxiety, eating disorder behavior, and/or PTSD. As adjuncts to conventional psychotherapy or pharmacotherapy, evidence-based CAM therapies can improve outcomes, enhance our patients’ quality of life, and reduce the high costs associated with mental health care.

We provide mental health treatment education with families/guardians and discuss the range of no-pharmacological modalities used in mental health care providing options for treatment. PHH is committed to improving mental health care by advancing an agenda for evidence-based uses of CAM through research, education, direct service, and training.

The Bridge Program Highlights

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is one of the most common methods of talk therapy and has been shown to be very effective in treating mental illness. But when dealing with kids and adolescents their prefrontal cortex (rational thinking) does not fully develop until the age of 25 years. Studies have shown that CBT alone may not be as effective in kids/adolescents since their brains are processing information primarily from the amygdala which is part of the limbic system also known as the emotional brain. Hence the primary focus of our treatment model is the integration of holistic therapies which have been shown to balance the limbic system and improve cognition. CAM research findings are leading to many safe, effective, and affordable nonpharmacological approaches for maintaining optimal well-being and treating specific psychiatric disorders like anxiety, ADHD, depression, and PTSD.

Our Approach

The Bridge Program is a way to “bridge” the gap between standard model CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and CAM (complementary and alternative medicine). By integrating evidenced-based CAM modalities with a comprehensive prevention and screening process The Bridge Program is the social initiative needed to provide an alternative approach in treating families experiencing behavioral health barriers or mental illness.

Screening - Participants will complete an initial assessment which includes:

  • Risk Assessment

  • Level of Care/Need Assessment

  • Biological Psychological

  • Social Assessment

  • ACEs Assessment (Adverse Childhood Experiences)

  • Nutritional Assessment

Assessments will also include family/guardian input. An evidenced based treatment plan will be developed, and goals will be established. The treatment team will go over program details and program schedule at initial visit.
